hope you all had a good summer. Although Executive members were
spending time with their families and taking a well-earned rest, as you

Updates
We
have been in touch with some members who volunteered to help out on
various committees. If we missed you, and you would like to help
out on one of the committees or would like more information, please get
in touch with one of the contact people listed above. Angus
Weller
has been appointed to the Growth Management Plan Performance Review
Committee. Council
has ratified
Sue Wipper’s position
as Neighbourhood Representative on the Plan Nanaimo Advisory Committee. Gunter
Zimmer
reports that we have 14 members interested in Neighbourhood Watch
program. We await our turn on the RCMP waitlist for a briefing.
You will be informed of updates. City
of Nanaimo
We
have been keeping an eye on Council Meetings and plan to attend any that
may have agenda items that affect our neighbourhood. Jan King has
been in meetings with Parks and Recreation staff to gather information
on the proposed walkway - more details to follow.
7-Eleven As
many of you have noticed there has been activity lately on the Terry's
Save Rite property. Our information is that the new 7-Eleven store
will open up sometime in late October. We have not been able to
ascertain what, if any, business will share the space with them.
Meetings Executive
Meetings The
Executive Committee will now be meeting regularly on the second Thursday
of each month. If you have any issues you would like us to discuss
at these meetings, please phone the committee member involved or Allan
and Jennifer at 756-0395. General
Meeting A
General Membership Meeting is scheduled for 7
p.m., November 9th, 2000
at the Kin Hut. We are currently trying to get a
representative from Park and Recreation to come and outline the long
range plans for the proposed seawall walkway. We will also be
giving a brief update on the progress of various initiatives.
Following the more formal part of the meeting, members are invited to
stay and enjoy coffee, tea and goodies and meet some of your neighbours
at a pre-Christmas get-together. If you can help out by supplying
a small plate of goodies to share, please phone Joan Shillabeer at
758-4355 (or just bring them along anyway!).
Annual
General Meeting The
Annual General meeting will be held late April or early May. Dates
and location will be published in the Community Announcement section of
the local newspapers and members will be sent details of meeting time
and date as well as nominating committee information. Fundraising
for DBNA Funds
are required to keep DBNA operational...hall rental for the AGM,
newsletters and bulletins, and other projects. If you have any
suggestions and are willing to help out, we welcome your call.
Here are a few projects we have in the planning stages already. Book
Sale: We
would like to have a book sale in the spring.
How about checking through those boxes you have stored in your
basement and garages for the following: novels,
literature, biographies, fiction, pocket books in good shape (No
magazines, text books or Readers Digest Condensed books please.
Experience has shown that these just don't sell).
Call Angus at 729-7292 to make arrangements for pickup or
delivery.
Water
storage:
In
the event of an emergency, a good supply of water is essential. f
you would be interested in purchasing 45 gal plastic containers DBNA may
be able to help. Clean, used containers (same size) are
available for safe storage of essential items, i.e. blankets, sleeping
bags. If we generate enough interest, we may be able to get these
at a reduced rate for our organization. We would need to show
an interest of about 50 units to make this possible. Call
Angus at 729-7292 to register. Secure
it:
In
the same vein of emergency preparedness: a very important
precaution is to secure your hot water tank so it does not shake loose
and topple. Should there be enough interest, DBNA is considering
offering this service for a nominal fee. If you would like to
volunteer to be on the "secure-it" team, let us know. We
would like people to call Angus at 729-7292 to register so we may
determine your interest in this service. Reminder If
you have recently acquired an e-mail address, or changed your
server, be sure to send in your address to davidson@nisa.net . Upcoming
