Important Dates Page of the web site was updated for 2010. Further changes and additions will be made as other dated become finalized.
March 19
Don't forget about our upcoming Annual General Meeting, March 25 , at the Kin Hut , 7pm. Elections will be held for 2010, there will be a gardening presentation and an update on the implementation of the Neighbourhood plan. Refreshments will be served. Hope to see you there.
April 26
Conacts Page was updated to reflect the results of the AGM and the Executive for 2010. Additional Members at Large to be confirmed in coming weeks.

Don't forget about our upcoming Neighbourhood Picnic on Sunday June 27 at the Kin Park, Departure Bay beach, 11 am to 3pm . There will be music provided by a live band, games, a beach sculpture competion, BBQ, plus a raffle with prizes. Everyone welcome. The picnic will go ahead rain or shine.

Local Issues page has been updated to include information on new off leash dog park locations being considered by the City. Some of the locations that may be of interest to DBNA members include Linley Valley, Wardropper park and Beach Estates park. An open house is to be held on July 29 ( see Local Issues page for details).

Local Issues page was updated to provide information on the proposed redevelopment of 2835 Departure Bay Road. This is the cottage adjacent to the "Tides" project, mid way between Wingrove and Bay Streets.

For interested Kayakers
The Nanaimo Paddlers will be holding Thursday evening paddles from Departure Bay Beach this Spring starting at 5:30 pm. Length of the outings are determined by time of sunset but generally are at least 2 hours. All skill levels welcome. Penny Bent and Allan Davidson attended last nights public hearing on the revised Official Community Plan. Penny made a presentation to council outlining DBNA concerns over discrepencies between our Neighbourhood Plan and the proposed OCP considering important issues like building heights and densities. Her presentation also emphasized that Departure Bay is a unique area within the City and needs to be identified as such.
Allan made a presentation outlining the need for a review of the City's rezoning and development approval processes to reduce the amount of conflict between residents and developers on densification projects.
The draft version of the OCP is scheduled for final debate at the July 14 Council meeting.
October 30
Fall 2008 Newsletter/Brochure was added to the Newsletter section. The newsletter was distributed through the Nanaimo Bulletin Newspaper to most homes in the Departure Bay area. This was done in an effort to encourage new membership in the DBNA.
November 3
Photographs of two summer events have been added (see the subpages under the Photographs section of the web site). These include the Snuneymuxw First Nations Heritage Portal Event that occurred on July 26, 2008 and the Annual Bathtub Race that took place on July 27, 2008.
November 15
Photos of the Annual History Night ( November 13) added to the Photograph section.
December 3
Members of the DBNA Executive met with City of Nanaimo Parks and Recreation staff to discuss plans for improvements along the beach front. A summary of the items discussed has been added to the Local Issues page of the web site.
December 12
Woodstream Tree Planting Phase 2. A few additional photographs of the tree planting efforts carried out by DBNA members on December 11 have been added to the Photograph section of the web site.
