The Kiwanis Sunrise Club will be sponsoring a Kids Appreciation Day at the newly renovated Centennial Park Water Park ( Behind 7-Eleven) on July 6 from 11:30 till 1:30. Free hotdogs and drinks will be provided for smaller children.

The neighbourhood picnic, scheduled for June 11 has been cancelled due to a lack of volunteers to help put it on.
History Night has been re scheduled to Thurs. Oct 27. Same time and place ( 7pm at the Kin Hut). Presenter to be announced.
The Salmon have returned to Depature Creek! Now that the fall rains have started, Pink Salmon are moving into the creek from Departure Bay. Last Friday, over 100 fish were counted in the creek and yesterday we observed about 25 in the vacinity of Woodstream Park.
It is thought that the run won't last for long so if you are interested in seeing them don't wait to long. This is the most Salmon that have been in Departure Creek in years.
Sept 28- A count of the number of Pink Salmon in the creek as carried out this afternoon. The current numbers are 149 live salmon spawning in the creek and 100 dead ones.

Don't forget about our upcoming Neighbourhood Picnic on Sunday June 27 at the Kin Park, Departure Bay beach, 11 am to 3pm . There will be music provided by a live band, games, a beach sculpture competion, BBQ, plus a raffle with prizes. Everyone welcome. The picnic will go ahead rain or shine.

Nanaimo Area Land Trust ( NALT) and the City of Nanaimo will be holding an information meeting on Departure Creek- Past Present and Future. The meeting will be at the Kin Hut on Thursday November 18th. Doors open at 6:30 pm with presentation starting at 7:00 pm. Refreshments, displays, door prizes

Some of the locations that may be of interest to DBNA members include Linley Valley, Wardropper park and Beach Estates park. An open house is to be held on July 29 ( see Local Issues page for details).

Photographs of two summer events have been added (see the subpages under the Photographs section of the web site). These include the Snuneymuxw First Nations Heritage Portal Event that occurred on July 26, 2008 and the Annual Bathtub Race that took place on July 27, 2008.
